The Installation proposes a conceptual and poetic translation of the paradigm ‘Nature / Culture’

ILIVETOMORROW actual Design exhibition shows the 2 First collection of Tapani Studio run by Stefano Occhipinti with Beatrice Spinello and Francesco Ghedin.
Tapani’s works explore the relation between Fashion (Haute Couture Knowledge) and Furniture Design. Referring to the 20’s with the Bauhaus (tubular structure from Marcel Breuer, Mies Van der Rohe, or patterns from Anni Albers) and the 50.s, they create a unique range of typologies with 3 dimensional surfaces in leather using traditional craftsmanship and industrial processes.
LIVETOMORROW presents Tapani Mod Collection on Friday, January 13, 2012.
Opening cocktail reception on Friday, January 13, 2012, 6.30 – 9 .30 pm Exhibition from Friday, January 13 to Thursday, February 16, 2012
Tapani…’s MOD collection is inspired by a playful look at contradictions in design. Taking the clean, non-complex form of the cube and applying this to modular structure, each piece is constructed with simple and strong forms. The cubes are taken further, produced with intricate detailing, rich materials and workmanship. Each cube is handcrafted at the hand of Artisans and can be twisted and turned to produce patterns while promoting interaction and creativity from the user.
The MOD collection is made up of three carefully considered items, a Rocking Chair, Ottoman and Hammock. Each piece is created applying a single cube construction and design that is not reproduced, resulting in a completely one-of-a-kind design piece.
Using materials and techniques usually reserved for haute couture creations, Tapani designs and crafts pieces by hand. Investigation and experimentation of methods and material is integral to their development process. Through collaboration with a variety of artisans, traditional processes have been reviewed and revived within their own workshop. It is here that processes are challenged and relevant design issues are faced. With their focus on innovation combined with a commitment to traditional craftsmanship, artisan skills are driven into new territory, resulting in collections that merge industrial design and fashion.
About Tapani
Stefano Occhipinti (1978), Beatrice Spinello (1979) and Francesco Ghedini (1979) are three Italians with a shared skill base that spans Fashion, Industrial Design and Communications; together they form Tapani Studio. Based between Italy, Hong Kong and the Philippines the operation has a global focus with an interest in pushing the boundaries of multidisciplinary design. Merging haute couture and craft with functional forms Tapani Studio produces objects that celebrate the art of craft.
Having worked together since 2005, Occhipinti, Spinello & Ghedini together set up and now run a secret playground where fashion designers seasonally venture to develop design ideas and produce new and innovative concepts through exploration of material and workmanship. It was in this workshop and through the desire to apply innovative craft and create unique design pieces that the idea for Tapani was conceived.
The aim of Tapani Studio is to explore methods of making design objects both with self-commissioned projects and in collaboration with other design studio.
